The Parish of the Basilica of St. Michael in Pensacola, FL celebrates its 130th Anniversary with New and Restored Stained Glass

Most Rev. Bishop Gregory L. Parkes of the Pensacola-Tallahassee Diocese with Rector Joseph Callipare led the parish of the Basilica of St. Michael through a celebratory mass and ceremonial blessing of the newly renovated and newly designed stained glass windows at the Basilica as it celebrates it’s 130th Anniversary.  St. Michael’s stakes a claim as one of the oldest Catholic communities in the United States by way of their connection to the community who celebrated mass with Spanish explorer Tristan de Luna in 1559 on the beaches of Pensacola.

The original Emil Frei stained glass was given a thorough restoration and provided with hurricane protection glass on the exterior.  Nine new windows in keeping with the original Emil Frei windows were added to the bell tower, choir loft, and sacristy.
